New ancient recipe VS original ancient copper recipe
#wheelthrown #tutorial #pottery
Hello Potters. In this episode we will be testing and comparing Potters choice (PC-54)
glaze Ancient copper from the Amaco company for cone 6 oxidation. If you are not in the know, Amaco discontinued this glaze a little over a year ago and has since reformulated it. This of course requires testing to see if the new recipe is just as good as the old recipe. If was a classic, let's see if this one stands the test.
Note: all tests were in the same kiln, we do both brushed and poured glazing for these tests.
Enjoy the review of Amaco's reissued Pc-54 ancient copper glaze.

What is Grog? (Potter Terms)
Переглядів 1,2 тис.21 день тому
#craft #tutorial #pottery Good day potters. In this video we are answering the question, what is grog? especially in its relation to clay. In short grog is fired, ground, and crushed up pottery or brick sherds that are reintroduced into clay bodies (usually stoneware) to help the clay dry more evenly, give it durability, and work ability. Grog in clay is a wonderful thing. Not only is it prized...
Glaze review Cosmos co- 13 Mars Crystal glaze from AMACO

#wheelthrown #tutorial #pottery #howiamaco Hello potters!. This is a review for the glaze co-13 mars crystal from the amaco company. I wont lie, these glazes have been a pain to test. while they give good results when directions are followed the directions are very limiting for anyone who isn't doing vases without an liner glaze. Luckily I have found you can use a liner glaze with few of them b...

I've been waiting for an event like this to happen on...

#pottery #art #ceramic Hello you dirty potters. every now and again I sit down to really test myself and see if it matches up with my imagination. Glaze review clayscapes coastal blue
Переглядів 3,4 тис.Місяць тому
#pottery #art #clayscapes clayscapes coastal Blue is a fantastic glaze, although it's a little runny it looks amazing on white and red clay on top of that it is a fantastic catalyst for super runny drippy glazes. I truly don't know why more people are not using clayscapes glazes for amount of glaze you get for the price. especially if you're a studio owner $100 would buy you a large amount of g...

#pottery #art #madeinaskutt hello potters. This video is quite a treat for me in that I don't often get to bring glaze recipes back from the dead like this. I was wondering where Randy's red came from and upon looking it up I found it was not anywhere to be found on Glazy. so I put it there myself along with pictures, recipe, and formula. This was a exciting video for me although I think it ser...

I love harvesting clay from my yard, but I have much to learn lololol
Do you have any tests that are same application, same clay, same glaze liners? Because there's a lot of variation going on.
New version seems closer to Mayco copper float now. For sure it's darker then the original. Thank you for testing. I still have some old ancient copper not sure if I will get the new or just use copper float. Amaco did a good job with trying to recreate the glaze but it isn't the same. This is a great video. Thank you for this information.
Great review.... doing your duty to keep our fingers stained red! Thanks.
Old one is better. 😊
You need to test apples to apples. Either pour both or brush both.
Thank you for this test. Have you tried mayco copper jade? I wonder how it compares
I haven't but let me talk to the company and maybe they'll send over one.
Thanks for the comparison. I'm glad I have a whole bottle of old recipe. But, I am also glad there is something similar that is actually available. It helps greatly to know the new recipe will come out darker.
The difference in color is so really obvious side by side.
That cup with your green....is fire! I'd buy that glaze lol!
Love your videos. I get such a kick from your sense of humor. I realized because of that, I am actually learning boatloads of useful stuff. Brilliant. 🐒
Right on time as a box of the new new just arrived!
Eyyyyyy ;)
what if fired at below cone 5+?
I prefer the new one...
It does hurt some people on their pinky to centre because they push down too hard yeah?
Not hating that black into the copper on the tea cup.
Amaco must have paid for glazy's "target & solve" feature
Thank you so much for this, I was wondering how the new would stack up! The new is definitely darker. but still beautiful. I now pour most of my glazes also.
Thanks heaps for sharing your tests 🤗
"I'm Bat-Man!" 😂
I can definitely see the difference in shading and I prefer the old recipe. I absolutely love the cup that you poured too much glaze on. Its stunning to me. Thanks for the stream!
Actually Brushing on the new ancient copper as we speak! You’re right, the newer version definitely looks darker, but still pretty. Thanks for the review! ❤
I think they ran out of lithium...
>.>
Yes, the new looks darker.
I MIGHT try the new recipe once but on different clays. I love AC.
Tiff, so good to see you back. I'm a hand builder and you are my most favourite clay teacher. Thank you ❤.
Dante try The Ceramic Shop copper flare! It's gorgeous! You can also buy it in dry form!
I’m sad I missed out on the OG AC. I started after it was discontinued 😢. I have a bottle of the new as well as Copper Float so I’ll give it a go. But I’m sad.
Mayco Light Flux + Old Ancient Copper is one of my favorite combos. The flux really adds so much to this glaze.
Thanks for doing this comparison. I have learned a lot from you over the years. I’ve struggled with getting ancient copper to shine like yours. Do you do a fast cool down, ie taking the plugs out of the kiln early. I heard this may make the crystals show off their sparkle more. Is this something you’re aware of? And do you do a slow, medium or fast cook time? Also are you in a humid or dry climate? I’m in the mountain desert of Utah. Do you think this makes a difference when firing?
I too have gotten both matte and glossy results. A faster cool will result in a glossier finish and more crystals. Slower cool will give you a more matte result. I would do a medium speed firing with a fast cool. Hope this helps.
@@chrisdotdash5154 thank you. :)
I agree with what your conclusions. It looks like the new recipe is also sensitive to how thick it is because those areas come out darker. So New ancient copper use porcelain or light clay body and avoid build up where it is thick.
They should call it New Ancient Copper. They are both pretty, but I prefer the original. The new one seems to have a lot more brown in it, or looks a lot more brown, and it just doesn't have the depth of the original. Really love the piece that stuck to the kiln. Thanks for the video; you are so close to 100k! Hope you get it soon.
I totally agree. The new AC is nice, but it doesn't have that golden glittery effect of the original.
OG Ancient Copper is definitely lighter/brighter. On the Laogai Green, it reminds me of Black Aventurine.
Yeah the old one is definitely lighter (and brighter?)
I clicked so fast.. lol I have a box with the new AC on some detail pieces waiting to be fired.. After seeing this, I kind of wish I had just gone with copper float.
Yeah the new recipe is definitely darker but I personally don't hate the new look. :P
❤❤
Bro I've been dying for some ancient copper more than a jealous goblin
I was wondering if you could do a video on glazing techniques. It's probably the thing I struggle with the most. At the studio I go to I ask the instructors and they just stare at me and change the subject. I wash the dust from my pots. mix the community glazes into oblivion, dip my pots for 3 to 5 seconds and I get trash. Others at the studio make magic using the same glazes and combos. What am I doing wrong???? We have cone 6 and a cone 10 gas kiln. I have used Amaco glazes and the studio made bucket glazes. Sometimes the glazes apply watery and sometimes they are thick and crack off but as I said I mix and mix and mix and I wash the dust off my pots and they are dry when I apply. I'm not the only one at studio but it seems there are only a few of us in this struggle. HELP, Sensei. Please?
The best explanation ever on youtube , wow Thank you a thousand times sir, you get a new subscriber 👍✅
as always my favorite teacher! thank you so much!
Dude. That is a sucky brush. Get a better brush man.
Came for the tips. Stayed for the humor.
Great ideas, fast paced with excellent advice.
Definitely darker now with the new formula.
I watch this one often! I can never thank you enough🥰
Thanks 😅
Strangely soothing

Ah hah. Watching your vids I’ve often wondered. Hey I’ve seen you pulling in rings, or stages, and then evening it out. Advantages? I’ve always focused on the mass at the bottom and evened it as I go up.
